TWO 12 year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of arson following a blaze which destroyed a community centre.

A fire broke out in the roof of Bluehouse Farm Community Centre in Laindon Link, Laindon, at about 2.20pm yesterday and quickly spread.

A group of teenagers had been seen hanging around near the building a short time before the blaze started.

Officers spent yesterday afternoon speaking to them to find out the cause of the fire.

Two 12-year-old children, one boy and one girl, were later arrested at their homes in Basildon on suspicion of arson.

They have both been released on police bail until Tuesday, May 6, pending further enquiries.
