A SLIP road closed for almost 48 hours after an out-of-control tanker crashed into a safety barrier is expected to reopen tomorrow.

The slip road on the A130/A1245 junction in Thundersley was closed from Sadlers Farm to the Rayleigh Spur roundabout from Monday morning after a broken-down tanker caused damage to the barriers and the carriageway verge as it left the road.

Traffic was diverted via the roundabout while workmen carried out emergency repairs over the last two days though the slip road was expected to open this morning.

An Essex Highways spokesman said: “The dedicated slip road on the A130 at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout (northbound) has been closed since Monday 17th February, following a collision involving a tanker.

“The tanker hit a substantial section of safety barrier and caused a deep rut in the carriageway verge when it left the road.

“In the interests of motorists’ safety the slip road has had to remain closed in order for essential repairs to be carried out.

“A diversion is in place via the roundabout and we expect it to reopen in the early hours of Wednesday 19th February.

“We appreciate motorists patience in the meantime and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
