A car smashed into a Westcliff house in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to Cranley Avenue at 1.20am after the vehicle slammed into the semi-detached house.

Firefighters from Leigh and Southend checked the car and house but no one was trapped in either.

A structural engineer was called in and crews made the area safe and left by 2am.

Looks like the car came down Cranley road, crossing Cranley Avenue then regrettably into the house. Would have been nice to have had a bit more information, eg mechanical failure, sickness at wheel, under the influence, driving whilst apping etc. Also can't see much evidence of heavy breaking in the stones and it seemed to have made a reasonable size hole in the front room which probably left the occupants nonplussed.

I would love to see the insurance claim of what happened. This car didn't give way but before I realised the headlights were mine in window of the house that I hit
