A PEDESTRIAN has been left with serious injuries following a collision with a car in Grays.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident, which happened just before the roundabout where Rectory Road meets Dock Road.

The air ambulance attended the scene of the collision, which happened at around 7.20am today.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "The man, who was believed to be in his late 40s, suffered multiple injuries including damage to his pelvis and leg, and a serious head injury.

"We were called at 7.20am and sent an ambulance, two rapid response cars, an ambulance officer, and Kent Air Ambulance to the scene.

“Critical care medics administered advanced pain relief to the patient, before airlifting him to the Royal London Hospital."

A police investigation has been launched.

Dock Road was closed between Clarkebourne Drive and Lawns Crescent and Rectory Road, was closed between Dock Road and Crescent Avenue whilst police examined the scene. It reopened just after 11am.

Material, which appeared to be items of clothing, were left strewn across the roundabout as a result of the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Following initial police enquiries a 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

"Police would like to hear from any motorists or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it.
