A SANDWICH chain has revealed it is opening a new store on Canvey.

Subway is creating six new jobs with the planned branch in Furtherwick Road.

Bosses haven’t revealed the exact opening date, but said it would be some time next month and work on the building is set to start soon.

Residents have welcomed the news and said it would bring something new to Canvey.

Although Subway has also not revealed the exact location of the store, it is believed it will be next to a 99p shop.

Norman Smith, Castle Point councillor responsible for regeneration, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to see an empty shop being used.

“I’m really encouraged the fact there’s going to be six new jobs and it’s a reputable company coming in. If one comes in, then you find others will follow.

“As the regeneration of Canvey moves on people are realising things are happening.”

Peter May, Castle Point councillor for Canvey central, said it was good news for youngsters.

He said: “I know my son will enjoy a Subway. Maybe I will have to try it myself.”

Bob Dalgarno, development agent for Subway in Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, said the chain had been looking to open on Canvey for a while.

He said: “We are delighted to be opening a new Subway store on Canvey.

“The premises in Futherwick Road presented us with the perfect location for our new store.

“We are hoping to be opening some time in March and the new Subway store will create around six full and part-time jobs for the town.”
