A SEAFRONT pub will remain open this summer despite long term redevelopment plans.

The Foresters Arms, in Marine Parade, Southend, will remain open despite developer the Inner London Group’s multi-million plan’s to build restaurants and a 13-storey block of flats on the site, opposite the Kursaal.

Manager Ron Grenfell said: “We are staying open throughout the summer. We haven’t been approached by the brewery or the Inner London Group.”

Dancers perform at the pub every evening and all day on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mr Grenfell, whose mum Sharon Davies is landlady, said: “Our regulars will be more than happy we are staying open.”

The Inner London Group hopes to submit full plans for the ambitious “Marine Plaza”

development for the site, which is derelict apart from the pub, by the end of this year, the Echo revealed earlier this month.

Work to replace derelict former play area Funland, the ForestersArms and a temporary car park with 290 flats and 3,000sq m of commercial floor space could start within six months of permission being granted.

..that dance...exotic dancers if you like.
Its a classic old school pub and should remain so, probably don't/won't fit in with its soon to be fancy surroundings so who knows what will happen to the old place we can only guess.

Not everybody's cup of tea but it will be a sad day when they call time on the Foresters. Great history, very much part of what might be called the real Southend........the developers should think about sticking up a statue of Gay Ted, possibly in drag.

This all sounds very shifty to me. First this geezer the manager is not Sharon Davies son. She has a son and a daughter but not him Ron. So why lie about the relationship? Sharon was an ex partner of John Woodhouse who died http://www.echo-news

John was the leaseholder. They were business partners but Sharon was a licensee. I am wondering why the pub is still being run by people that don't own the lease? Fishy. Surely the lease would be up for sale as part of Jonh's estate. I wonder if the Enterprise Inns who own the freehold AKA the brewery even know of John's death. Is running a pub of somebody that died even legal?

I am telling you it is fishy. If the late John had the lease and he has passed away and some guy claiming to be Sharon's son is running it, then it is fishy. I wonder if the brewery know about this.
