A CHILDREN’S centre in Leigh has been given high marks in its first Ofsted inspection.

Blenheim, based at Blenheim Primary School, was rated “good’’ by inspectors after their visit last month.

Their report praised the centre, which opened in January 2009, for the access provided for families to services provided there, the quality of leadership and the outstanding level of care given by staff.

Later this year, the centre is due to merge with Leigh Children and Family Centre, based in Darlinghurst Primary School.

James Courtenay, Southend councillor responsible for children and learning, said: “Our children’s centres are the jewel in our crown and are third or fourth in the country in terms of standards.

“I am happy to see the good score Blenheim has been given and I think it is now in the best place possible to go ahead and merge with Darlinghurst.”
