POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man inappropriately touched a woman on a train in before stealing her phone.

The incident on Saturday, March 1, happened onboard the 8.54pm service from Grays to Fenchruch Street, just before the train left the station.

Detective Constable David Bishop, the investigating officer, said: “While the train was at Grays station, the suspect inappropriately touched the victim and, when challenged by her, grabbed her mobile out of her hand and ran from the train.”

Officers have been carrying out several lines of enquiry, including viewing CCTV footage from on the train and in the station.

DC Bishop added: “This incident was incredibly upsetting for the victim and we are doing everything we can to find the individual responsible.

“We take all reports of sexual offences very seriously and won’t tolerate any kind of unwanted sexual behaviour on the railway network. If you recognise the man pictured, or have any additional information, please get in touch.”
