COUNTY Hall has agreed to spend £2.5million refurbishing the Deanes School.

Essex County Council approved the plans for the school in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley, during a cabinet meeting this morning.

The work will take place over the summer and is expected to be finished by September.

It comes after the Government’s adjudicator ruled to save the Deanes from closure last month.

The ruling Tory administration also approved plans to commit £14million towards rebuilding the Glenwood School in Rushbottom Lane, Benfleet on a new site for 150 pupils as well as 60 pupils with ASD.

King John and Appleton Schools will also be given £2million each to enable them to expand and take on an 150 extra pupils each.
