TRAVELLERS set up camp on land owned by Garrison Developments in Shoebury, yesterday, having moved from the Seaway car park, Southend.
The four caravans parked on a strip of shrubland opposite a children’s playground and behind a fence near Hinguar School.
One of the group said: “We are going to be here for a couple of days. We will clean up after ourselves, we’ve got bin bags.”
As the travellers are now on private land, Southend Council has no power to move them on, but has informed the developers of the travellers’ presence.
Paul Denney, technical director at Garrison Developments, said: “We immediately contacted Essex Police who attended the site with representatives of Southend Council and our own security team.
“We are in the process of serving a formal trespass notice ordering them to leave the site. If the group does not comply, we will commence the legal eviction process.”
