BASILDON Council is offering residents a chance to consign their most embarrassing fashion disasters to recycling black hole under a tongue-in-cheek “clothes amnesty”.

The council is even offering to collect unwanted garments for recycling, in an effort to increase the borough’s textile recycling figures.

Between now and Friday the council is promises to collect dodgy clobber without asking any questions about the owners’ fashion sense.

The council’s Gary Edwards said: “Everyone has those fashion mistakes lurking at the bottom of the wardrobe – or a pair of jeans they will never fit into again.

“Our message is, ‘just let go’.

We hope by doing something a little different, we can promote and raise awareness of this free service, which is good for the environment and saves the council money.”

Clothes should be left on the kerb in pink recycling sacks with a council textiles sticker attached. Stickers and details are available from basildon.gov.uk/justletgo
