A MAN had his face and neck slashed in an attempted street robbery.

The 23-year-old man was walking in Copperfield, in Laindon, when he was approached by another man who said he had a knife. Although the blade was not seen, the suspect demanded the victim's money and threatened to cut him.

The assailant tried to grab his bag and the two men grappled, but the suspect then ran off empty handed.

The victim later found cuts to his neck and face after the attack on Monday, March 31 at 11pm.

The suspect is described as aged 18 -25 years old, white, wearing a grey hoodie and clean shaven.

Investigating officer Pc Aaron Cattell said: "Whilst the victim’s injuries were not life threatening, if the neck injury was slightly deeper it could have resulted in a completely different outcome."

Anyone who has any information about this man should contact Pc Cattell or his colleagues at Basildon CID on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
