A YOUNG Leigh girl won her mum a whole host of goodies from several top companies by designing a cute Mother’s Day card.

The Echo teamed up with the Royals Shopping Centre, in Southend, to put on the competition for the most popular card.

Niamh Connolly-Joyce, five, won her mum Clare a Virgin hot air balloon flight and a meal for two at La Quinta restaurant, in Benfleet Road, Hadleigh.

She also won afternoon tea with prosecco at the Park Inn Palace Hotel, theatre tickets to Fiddler on the Roof at the Cliffs Pavilion, flowers from Flying Flowers, a haircut at Toni and Guy, Southend, and cosmetic treatments from Debenhams’ make-up department.

The Our Lady of Ransom School pupil won 133 votes from visitors to the shopping centre and readers of the Echo for the card – which was entirely her own design. Her mum Clare Connolly-Joyce, of Langley Close, Leigh, said: “I just said to her ‘do you want to make a card for the competition’ after I saw it in the Echo and she did it all herself.

“She did ask me how to spell Royal, but it was all her own work.

“I was really pleased to win it, I was shocked.

“It is a really great set of prizes and there were some other really good designs there.”

She added: “I’ve already got the flowers, which are lovely, and I’m really looking forward to getting the rest of the prizes.

“It’s superb and I’m really chuffed. Thank you.”
