TWO Benfleet homes were broken into over the weekend with more than 40 items stolen including a large screen TV.

One family returned from their holiday to find their home in Falbro Crescent had been broken into. Burglars stole a 40 inch Samsung 3D TV and bottles of perfume in the early hours of Saturday, April 12. It is believed thieves entered the house by forcing open a rear kitchen window.

There was a similar break in at a house in Church Road, Benfleet, which was discovered on Sunday, April 12. Thieves got into the home by smashing a pane of glass in a door at the back of the house and perfume was stolen.

Police believe the incidents are linked.

Investigating Officer Dc Andy Copley said: "We are linking these two burglaries as they happened in a similar timeframe and perfume was stolen from both homes. They were both discovered when the victims returned from holiday – a distressing experience for anyone.

"I would urge anyone with any information to contact officers at Southend CID or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"I would also advise anyone who may be going away on holiday, especially over the Easter break, to make sure their homes are protected. There is excellent crime prevention information on the Essex Police website which I would encourage people to take a look before leaving their homes empty for a few days.”

Police also advised fitting secure locks on outside doors, locking all windows and doors, installing an alarm and installing external lighting.

Detectives are appealing for information after the break-ins and are urging anyone that has any information to come forward.
