FOUR men have been arrested after thousands of pounds of guns were stolen.

The weapons, costing £100,000, were taken from the back of a lorry parked on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate at around 1am on Friday, April 18.

They were seen being loaded into a small, dark hatchback car which was driven away.

Armed officers arrested the men in Chadwell St Mary.

A 24-year-old man from Grays, 24-year-old man from the Grays area, 27-year-old man of no fixed address and a 33-year-old man from Grays are being questioned by detectives at a police station in Essex.

100 grand of guns were stolen from basildon. Did the people who owned the guns were just about to do armed robbery then found out that they had been burgled then phoned the police. If not why was there a load of guns in basildon....

2010 truckstop at burnt mills says...

Why didnt they park in the lorry park at burnt mills 500 yards from the place they got robbed its a secure lorry park 18 pound a night with cctv security on site 24 hours a day has been open since april 2010 with no reported incidents is it because the company didnt want to spend 18 pounds does there insurance know it was parked on the road next door to a secure lorry park which the police are enforce lorrys to park at the lorry park for the prevention of crime and thefts ?? The law has to be changed about the way guns and amo are transported, my partner works for a well known delivery firm and he has delivered guns to premises, there is no more security for carrying guns than carrying a double bed it goes on the same van , I think it is terrible.

This is a big issue that the Police need to deal with - if you drive along the A!3 or A127 after 8.00 clock at night - EVERY layby is full of lorries with the drivers sleeping for the night.

Surely they should be made to park in authorised truck stop areas and not in laybys which were never designed for overnight parking.

TEN men have been arrested as detectives continue to investigate the theft of firearms from a lorry in Basildon.

Police are currently carrying out extensive enquiries in the Grays area.

The theft took place when four people were seen opening the back of a lorry which had been parked on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate at approximately 1am on Friday, April 18.

The weapons, valued at approximately £100,000, were then seen being loaded into a small, dark hatchback car which was then drove off.

The ten men were arrested at addresses in Grays on Wednesday, 30 April. The suspects, all from Grays, were arrested on suspicion of theft and other offences and remain in custody today.

Senior Investigating Officer, Temporary Detective Superintendent Keith Davies from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said that a number of firearms, which are sporting guns such as shotguns and rifles, were still missing. He said that extensive house-to-house enquiries will be carried out in the Godman Road area of Grays as part of the search for the weapons.

Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the missing guns should contact Essex Police on 101.
