A POLICE officer has been sentenced after admitting sharing obscene images from his mobile phone.
PC James Addison, 37, from Rayleigh, was ordered to pay a £6,000 fine, £120 victim surcharge, and hand over his mobile phone when he was sentenced at the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court today.
Addison, who works for the London Metropolitan Police’s special operations department, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of publishing an obscene article last year during a court appearance on April 23.
He distributed the moving images from his phone between February 17, 2013 and June 6, 2013.
He worked for Scotland Yard’s diplomatic protection group (DPG) but has since been suspended.
An internal misconduct investigation has now begun and a hearing will take place in due course.
The future of Addison’s career at the force will be decided after the investigation.
DAC Fiona Taylor, directorate of professional standards at the force said: "We set the highest standards for our officers.
“They know the law and that the sharing of obscene images is illegal.
“PC Addison has acknowledged what he did was wrong and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”
