Mark Ruff, 46, of Downham Road, Wickford, admitted speeding. On September 9, 2013 he was caught driving a Ford Transit van at 43mph on Southend Road in Howe Green. The speed limit is 30mph. He was fined £100, ordered to pay £90 costs and victim surcharge of £20. Ruff was given four points on his licence.

Kirsteen Marler, 19, of York Road, Billericay, admitted assault. On March 18 she assaulted Darren Cook by beating him in Billericay. She was handed a six month conditional discharge, and a restraining order not to go to two addresses in Braintree until October 15, 2014. Marler must also pay £15 victim surcharge and £40 court costs.

Beverley Chaplin, 50, of Somercotes, Laindon admitted theft. She stole DVDs from Home Bargains in Basildon on March 31. Chaplin was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. She was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Peter Jones, 44, of Thorney Bay Caravan Park, Canvey admitted theft. He stole Blu-rays worth £107 from Asda at the Eastgate Centre, Basildon, on April 2. He was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months.

Gemma Charlotte Snook, 25, of Seaview Avenue, Basildon, admitted theft. She stole £5.80 of food from Tesco in Basildon on April 2. She was handed a six month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £1.60 compensation, a £15 victim surcharge and £40 court costs.

Anthony Winn, 26, of Ghyllgrove Close, Basildon, admitted threatening behaviour. He caused Dale Tinkler harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards him on March 16. Winn was handed a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 compensation.
