A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy miraculously escaped serious injury after being knocked off his bike and smashing his head against a windscreen.
Paramedics were called to Beedell Avenue, Westcliff, after the lad, named locally as Edwin, was involved in a crash.
The Year 5 pupil at the Westborough School had just collected revision papers from his friend’s house in Beedell Avenue and was approaching the junction with Westborough Road when he collided with a black Ford Fiesta.
Edwin’s friend, who asked not to be named, said: “The windscreen was all smashed in, but he was OK.
“He must’ve been trying to cross the road when it happened, he wasn’t in pain though and was saying he was fine.”
One police car and a rapid response vehicle from the ambulance service attended the scene shortly after 4.30pm.
The boy was taken to Southend Hospital as a precaution but was said to be not seriously injured.
