POLICE uncovered a garage packed with cannabis during a drugs bust in Wickford.

Officers smashed down the door to the house in Albany Road as part of a crack down on antisocial behaviour and drugs offences across the Basildon borough.

Once inside, police discovered the garage had been converted into a drugs den.

It contained two growing tents, each with nine cannabis plants inside.

A search of the rest of the property revealed the loft had also been converted in to a makeshift growing room, containing a further 11 plants.

In total, 29 cannabis plants were found.

Officers were acting on reports from neighbours who noticed suspicious activity over the last fewmonths.

A 34-year-old man was arrested during the raid and is currently on police bail, pending further enquiries.

PC Asa Smith, from the Wickford neighbourhood policing team, said: “We won’t tolerate drug activity and associated criminality.

“My message to the public is this – give us the information and we will do the rest.

“Where we receive information from the public we will act positively. We are dedicated to making the lives of criminals difficult in the area we police and beyond.
