A TALENTED choir used to entertaining 90 people is building its confidence to perform for 3,000 people at a world-famous London venue.

The Triple H Community Choir is heading to the O2 in Greenwich, which used to be the Millennium Dome, on Sunday June 29 to be part of the Sunday Night Live variety show.

It comes just 18 months after the group made up of amateurs from Hockley, Hawkwell and Hullbridge was set up.

With 2,800 people expected n the audience it will dwarf their previous biggest crowd of 90 at St Peter and St Paul’s church in Hockley last year.

Musical director, Ashley Thompson, said there were a few nerves, but excitement was building.

Mr Thompson said: “This all came as a last minute call after another choir had to drop out.

“One of the organisers knows my brother and it was through this that I got asked about entering our choir.

“We are all looking forward to it although I have had a couple of members texting me saying ‘do you think we are up for it’?”

“It is a pinch yourself moment really and I am just so proud to be part of this.”

At the show, the choir will sing a medley of songs from the First World War before returning after a break to perform a number of tunes by legendary rockers Queen.

Lisa Fuller, 43, of Cherry Close, Hockley, who joined the choir when it was first established said it is an unbelievable feeling knowing the group are going to sing at the venue.

“It is a once in a lifetime experience and I’m very excited,” Mrs Fuller, who works as a nurse, said.

“When I told a friend the other day about the concert, it did hit me how big it would be and sent my nerves jangling.

“I moved to Hockley two years ago and wanted to do something to meet local people, so when I heard about the choir I thought it was the perfect way to meet others and it is a lovely place to be.”
