ARCHAEOLOGISTS from the University of Cambridge have been in Daws Heath searching for historical artefacts.

Experts carried out a two-day dig in the gardens of homes in a triangular area surrounded by Bramble Road, Daws Heath Road and Western Road. The dig forms part of wider project undertaken by the university to map settlements across East Anglia.

Children from Southend High School for Boys, Southend High School for Girls, Cecil Jones, Shoebury High and Westcliff High School for Boys helped out.

Terry Barclay, from the Ages archaeology group, said: “We’ve found prehistoric flint tools which are quite common in Daws Heath. There have also been bits of medieval pottery found.”
