CASTLE POINT car parks are to get a £250,000 makeover.

Oak Road, on Canvey, and Richmond Hall, in Benfleet, will be resurfaced and get new markings in the ambitious project by Castle Point Council.

Charges were introduced on February 1 at Oak Road as well as Richmond Hall, and Lubbins car park, on Canvey seafront.

No further rises will come into force after the work is finished.

Tom Skipp, councillor responsible for car parking, said: “This is great news. I am delighted work on the first phase of our car parks improvement programme will be finished in the summer.

“I am pleased we have already made a good start with the work carried out to improve the drainage at Oak Road car park and I am sure the improvements will be welcomed by users of our car parks.”

Extensive drainage works have already been completed at the Oak Road car park after flooding during the winter caused problems.

As well as being resurfaced and re-marked, both car parks will have new signs for motorists. Work at the two car parks is expected to be finished by mid-July.

Labworth and Lubbins car parks, on Canvey, and one in School Lane, Benfleet, will also be given a makeover once the work on the first two is complete.

None of the car parks will be closed during the work.
