ROCHFORD District Council has given their backing to the county authority’s ‘Standing Together’ against domestic abuse campaign.
The Rochford authority is encouraging the local community to stand together, take a photo of their feet and post it to Facebook or Twitter using #tweetyourfeet and #notodomesticabuse.
The campaign has been put together by Essex County Council and Essex Police, with the help and support of survivors of domestic abuse, and focuses on the positive difference it has made to women and men who have left abusive relationships.
Rochford District Councillor for community, Jo McPherson, said: “I am pleased to be supporting the ‘Standing Together’ campaign to raise awareness about a subject that often remains behind closed doors.
“It is great that this campaign focuses on the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ and how people can be supported to leave abusive relationships and rebuild their lives.”
In the Rochford District, a J9 project is in place to make it easier for people to report domestic abuse.
Businesses and shops participating in the scheme display the logo to show they are a designated place to signpost victims to the help they need.
For more information visit www.essex.police.uk/standingtogether To report domestic abuse to Essex Police please call 101, but always call 999 in an emergency.
If you are a business and want to sign up to the J9 scheme call the Community Safety Team at Rochford District Council on 01702 546366.
