A FOOTBALL club is to donate half it’s advertising profits to a charity set up in memory of an 11-year-old boy.

Canvey Island Football Club will give cash it makes from selling advertising boards at the ground to the Danny Green Fund – a Canvey-based charity which aims to help youngsters under the age of 16 who are suffering from a brain tumour and the effects of posterior fossa syndrome.

The charity was set up by the family of DannyGreen, who died after losing an eight-month battle against brain and spinal cancer in 2012.

Chris Sutton, spokesman for Canvey Football Club, said: “We really are looking to back the Danny Green Fund in everything we do.

“The charity has become very much part of the football club and we want to help raise money and awareness of the charity, so they can continue their great work.”

The club, in Park Lane, has experienced financial difficulties over the last year.

Mr Sutton said they had come up with the initiative to tackle the club’s financial issue while at the same time helping out the charity.

He added: “This really is an excellent initiative which we hope local companies and business will support.” Each stadium board sold will also feature a logo of the charity.

Lisa Green, from the Danny Green Fund, said the charity felt proud to be the football club’s chosen charity.

She said: “The football club has very kindly offered to support our charity by making a donation from every stadium board that is sold which would also feature our logo.

“We really hope the business world will support this initiative as this is a fantastic opportunity for the charity to raise funds and continue our crucial work.

“It’s also a great way to the support the island’s football club, which works so hard within the community.”
