A teenage apprentice electrician at a housing development in Hockley was visited by his local MP last week.
Jordon Cannon, 16, left Greensward Academy last year and began as an apprentice with David Wilson Homes at their Clements Gate development in August, after impressing at interviews with local applicants.
Living in Hockley, Jordon walks to work every day and is relishing his opportunity to get practical experience as an electrician.
He said: “I knew I wanted to learn a trade.
“The apprenticeship with David Wilson Homes is a great opportunity that allows me to combine classroom learning, one day a week at college, with hands on practice and learning in my days working on site at Clements Gate.
“The electrician contractors are great teachers and the site manager here is a great mentor.”
Jordon was visited by Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, who was learning more about the apprenticeship schemes offered by the developer.
He said: “It’s a good thing that local young people like Jordon have been given an opportunity to work on this site and to learn an important trade that will stand them in good stead for the future.”
