ANIMAL-MAD staff at a Southend pet store raised more than £1,500 during their stores’ spring fundraising drive.

The money was raised by staff at Pets at Home, in London Road retail park, selling raffle tickets, homemade dog treats and cup cakes.

The money has been donated to Castledon Greyhound Rescue, based in Wickford.

Dave Luxford, manager of the store, said: “The staff were keen to ensure the money they raised went to help local animals in need.

“Castledon Greyhound Rescue are a small rescue team, who work hard to find loving homes for greyhounds, and we felt theywere a very deserving cause.”

Mr Luxford presented the cheque to kennel manager, Jodie Adams, accompanied by greyhounds Seamus, Angel and Elsa.

Ms Adams said: “We are so very grateful to the staff and customers at Pets at Home, Southend Victoria, for their generosity.

“As we are a small rescue we do struggle to raise funds, so their support is invaluable to us.

“It will enable us to continue with our work, finding homes for more of these beautiful, gentle dogs.”
