GRASS will be cut more promptly in Castle Point, councillors have promised.

After complaints over the state of the grass at St Katherine’s Churchyard, Canvey, the Victoria House Corner roundabout, in Hadleigh, and Thundersley Common playing field, councillors have taken action.

Castle Point Council leader, Colin Riley, and Tom Skipp, the councillor responsible for the environment and leisure, met the contractor Pinnacle this week.

They agreed with Pinnacle that more resources were needed and more machines and staff will now be brought in. Mr Skipp said: “We had a frank discussion and we let them know what we needed from them to bring the grass cutting back on schedule.”

An extra three-man team and an extra machine have been drafted in to address the issue of overgrown grass across the borough.

Mr Skipp said grass cutting would be back on schedule by the end of next week.

Deputy leader of the council, Bill Sharp, said: “I am delighted the new cabinet members and officers have seen this problem early, addressed it quickly and will ensure this does not happen again.”
