THIEVES broke into a Tesco supermarket and tried to steal the safe.

They broke into the shop, in Mandeville Way, Basildon at about 12.15am on June 20 by forcing the back door.

Once inside, they tried to creep in the area where the safe was kept, but tripped the alarm and fled the scene.

Essex Police are waiting to find out if Tesco have CCTV of the incident.

Anyone with information about the burglary should contact Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Maybe they should have bought a lottery ticket; a more legal way to end up with nothing, and probably not as much hard work !!

never use cash points at Tesco, if you check your balance and it says 'sorry unavailable' don't then go and try to withdraw money because it will say sorry unavailable again but it will still take the amount of money you tried to withdraw from your account.
