PLANS for a new GP surgery in Wickford have been passed after a heated meeting.
Basildon Council's development control meeting discussed the controversial proposals for the surgery, which would replace the current London Road doctors, tonight in talks which lasted 90 minutes.
A motion was put forward by councillor David Harrison, Ukip, to defer making a decision until more information about the actual position of the building on the proposed site, currently occupied by Wickford Market, could be gathered.
However, the motion was defeated and councillors voted in the majority to approve the outlined planning permission.
More detailed proposals for the site will need to be brought before the committee after they too are submitted before the work can go ahead.
