TWO men were injured as a brawl broke out in a Westcliff street.

One of the injured men suffered a broken hand, while the other suffered minor injuries, in the fight in Palmeira Parade.

Police were called to the scene and arrested two teenagers in connection with the fight, but a police helicopter search of the area could not trace any other suspects.

It is thought up to six people were involved in the fracas, which happened at 8.30am on Friday morning.

Police arrested an 18-yearold man and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm. Both were taken to Southend police station for questioning and were released on police bail until tomorrow.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We sent an emergency care practitioner to the scene who assessed a man with a suspected broken hand. He was taken to Southend Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Police are continuing to investigate what happened in the daylight incident, which was close to Westcliff train station and the seafront, to try and discover the brawlers’ identities. Anyone with information can call Southend Police on 101.
