A HOSPICE is appealing for adventurous volunteers to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro.

Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens hospice, in Westcliff, and Little Havens, in Thundersley, must raise £100,000 a week to continue providing care to adults, children and their families, living with serious illnesses.

Every year, people take part in challenges around the world raising money for Havens Hospices and sign-ups are now being taken for a trek up the highest free standing mountain in the world – Kilimanjaro.

Events fundraiser Emma Hamilton said: “We are always looking for adventurous people to complete our most arduous events and the next one is Kilimanjaro in August 2015.

“The challenges are as tough as they are rewarding. They really are a once in a lifetime opportunity and you raise money for a great local charity.

“Kilimanjaro’s summit rises high above the dusty plains and huge permanent glaciers flow down from its peaks, these views are the reward for pushing your limits both physically and mentally.

“Our trek takes the Machame route, allowing gradual acclimatisation and an excellent chance of reaching the summit.

“Over six days on the mountain you will pass through thick forest, moorland and scree (loose stones), en route to the highest point, Uhuru Peak.

“This is a challenging trek at altitude, climbing one of the most impressive and wellknown mountains in the world.”
