A NEW cafe for teenagers will open over the summer holidays on Canvey.

Castle Point Council has paid for the cafe near Waterside Leisure Centre, in Somnes Avenue.

It will be open for six hours every weekday during the summer holiday.

Bill Sharp, deputy leader and Tory councillor for St James’ Ward, said: “It is great news. It has been used before, but now it will be beneficial for youngsters.

“The funding for this worthwhile scheme was put in place by the leader of the council and now those who use the skateboard or new football pitch can sit comfortably with their mates in their own cafe.”

The cafe will be maintained by Benfleetbased skateboard club Legacy XS.

David Hillman, 71, a trustee at Legacy XS, said: “The council has funded us to run the cafe over the summer which is great.

“This means teenagers who use the skate park and other facilities can come in for a little something to drink and eat.”
