A SINGLE vehicle accident closed a lane of the Londonbound A13 between Sadlers Farm and the Pitsea Flyover this morning.

Firefighters were called to the incident shortly before 6.30am with two crews attending from Rayleigh Weir and one from Wickford.

Crews used specialist cutting equipment and worked alongside paramedics to free one trapped casualty from the crash by 7.30am.

A man in his thirties was removed from the car complaining of neck and back pain, his injuries were not thought to be serious but was taken to Southend Hospital as a precaution.

One lane of the road was closed for around three hours as an oil spill was dealt with but reopened at 9.30am.
