POLICE are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood.

The attack occurred on Sunday, July 6 between 11pm and 11.10pm, at the rear of a row of shops near the mini roundabout with White House Road.

The victim, said to be in his fifties and local to the area, was struck over the head by an unknown man with a length of wood.

He received a cut to the head which required hospital treatment but nothing was stolen from him.

Dc Paul Gutterridge, of Southend CID, said: “The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build and aged in his late twenties to early thirties.

“He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and at some point was carrying a three feet long length of wood.”
