POLICE are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood.

The attack occurred on Sunday, July 6 between 11pm and 11.10pm, at the rear of a row of shops near the mini roundabout with White House Road.

The victim, said to be in his fifties and local to the area, was struck over the head by an unknown man with a length of wood.

He received a cut to the head which required hospital treatment but nothing was stolen from him.

Dc Paul Gutterridge, of Southend CID, said: “The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build and aged in his late twenties to early thirties.

“He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and at some point was carrying a three feet long length of wood.”

Anyone that can help with information is asked to contact Dc Gutteridge at Southend CID on Essex Police 101.

People can also contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Sounds like a revenge attack to me. Probably someone he's had an argument with recently.

what are people doing behind rows of shops at that time, unless they live above or a shop proprietor is there any other reason to be round there, not an ideal spot is it.

Sounds like a drug deal gone wrong. Why would they both be behind a row of shops at 11pm.

Perhaps the victim owned one of the shops and was putting rubbish out the back in the bins, or perhaps he was parking his car around the back after going out etc.

He also reported the assault to the police, so no, I would not say that sounds like a drugs deal gone wrong would you?

Perhaps they WERE a shop proprietor or did indeed live above the shops.

Dagasman are you thick or something?

He could still easily report an assault if he was there to buy drugs but got attacked. Wouldn't exactly be hard to leave out the bit about buying drugs would it?

We don't know do we as none of us were there.

I'd rather wait for the FACTS before commenting.
