MADCAP fundraisers will get a muddy makeover later this month while raising thousands for Havens Hospices.

The Mulberry Mud Run will be held on Saturday, July 19, and Havens Hospices are encouraging people to sign up.

The fundraising run will see participants tackling either a 2.5-mile course, across the Estuary from Thorpe Bay beach to the Mulberry Harbour – the wartime relic in the Thames – and back again. Or they can take on a smaller child friendly fun run route.

Last year 400 people took part, raising £16,000 for Havens, and events fundraiser Jason Curtis is looking forward to a sixth successful event.

He said: “The mud run is always a great day out at the beach as supporters tackle the harder course, while children can take on the fun run – and what child doesn’t love getting covered in mud?

“It’s always a lot of fun and we will be taking sign-ups on the day, so any clubs, groups or families can simply turn up and get stuck in.”

This year’s event is hoping to raise more than £20,000 for Havens, which need to raise £100,000 a week to continue providing free respite breaks and pain control.
