A FAMILY-RUN clothing store is in the running for a prestigious fashion prize.
N Shelley, in Billericay High Street, has been shortlisted for the Women’s Retailer of the Year at the 2014 Drapers Independent Awards.
The awards, which are often referred to as the fashion industry Oscars, are judged by staff from leading fashion magazine Drapers, industry staff and celebrities.
N Shelley, which recently celebrated its 90th anniversary, was shortlisted thanks to its “inspiring” day wear, occasion wear and accessory collection, as well as its dedication to providing “outstanding”
customer service.
Owner Sarah Millet, 45, said: “Being shortlisted for the award is an absolute honour, especially against such amazing competitors.
“At N Shelley we put our heart and soul into everything we do.
“I am incredibly proud we have been recognised as leaders in this inspiring industry.
“Being shortlisted in our 90th anniversary year is especially poignant.
“I’m certain my great aunt Norah and my mother Elizabeth would approve.”
The women’s clothing store, which originally traded out of a tiny front room, first opened its doors in 1924.
The shop has always remained in safe family hands – Mrs Millet is the great-niece of seamstress founder Norah Shelley.
In May, the business celebrated its landmark anniversary with a week of celebrations, including a fashion exhibition showcasing Essex style over the past nine decades.
The Drapers Independent Awards will take place at the Brewery, in London, on Wednesday, September 17.
