ROADS have been closed after a gas leak in Pitsea.

Police have cordoned off Rectory Road, Ashlyns and Wickford Avenue and have warned others could be closed too as a result.

The gas main at the junction of Delhi Road and Rectory Road was exposed and pouring out a large amount into the area.

Firefighters were called at 1.53pm and by 2.30pm the gas had been cut off.

The main is still exposed and it is believed gas has been cut off to nearby houses while it is repaired.
