THE Environment Secretary visited Canvey’s pumping stations following Sunday’s storm.
Liz Truss, the new secretary of state for the environment and Paul Leinster, head of the Environment Agency, visited Canvey on Friday afternoon to see first-hand the aftermath of the storm which saw two months rain fall in a few hours.
MP for Castle Point Rebecca Harris said: “I am very pleased that she managed to come on what was her first day of official visits and that she reiterated her support for an independent investigation with the Government’s chief scientific advisor and Defra and her support for my pledge to find answers for Canvey residents.
“Sunday’s floods cannot be allowed to happen again and all the agencies involved need to start talking now.”
