TK Maxx’s new Basildon store will open next month, it has been revealed.

The retail giant will be creating 46 local jobs thanks to the store opening at Pipps Hill Retail Park, off Miles Gray Road.

The size of three football pitches, it will fill the shop left by PC World and Currys, which moved into Comet’s unit after it closed in 2012.

The new store will sell men’s, women’s and children’s wear, as well as homeware, and will open on Thursday, August 21. Long queues are expected on the big day.

The retailer, which also has stores at Lakeside and Southend’s Royals Shopping Centre, will be the borough’s only TKMaxx store, providing a much-needed shot-in-thearm to Basildon’s economy.

Pitsea’s new Aldi supermarket attracted people queuing from 2am to be the first to bag the bargains.

More than 250 people turned out and TK Maxx is hoping for a similar number.

It is not Basildon’s first TK Maxx store.

The clothing retailer had a shop in the Eastgate Centre, which closed in 2008 after it said the shop was too small for what it wanted to sell.
