VOLUNTEERS raised more than £800 during Armed Forces Day.
St Nicholas Church, Island Boys and Girls Football Club, and Smallgains Social Club, recently raised £826 during the Canvey Island Armed Forces Day, which will be used for the needs of local serving and veteran Armed Forces personnel.
Councillor Peter May, Chairman of Canvey Island Town Council, said: “Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fantastic amount raised on the day and to those volunteers who collected. The town council agreed the money raised this year would be used to support serving and veteran armed forces and their families who live on the island – our local heroes in the community. If anyone who has served or is serving with the Armed Forces would like to be considered, please can they get in touch with the town council.”
A committee, including representatives from Canvey Island Town Council and St Nicholas Church, will agree the allocation of the funds, which will be administered by St Nicholas Church.
Nearly 2,000 people turned out to support the sixth annual Armed Forces Day on Canvey last month.
