THE work of mental health volunteers has been recognised.

Volunteers from Advocacy Together Southend which helps represent people with mental health issues, have received City and Guilds qualifications.

The group, which received certificates from Southend mayor Chris Walker, has dealt with more than 100 cases, giving more than 1,148 hours of their time since January alone.

Volunteers help people with appeals, welfare applications, child access, complaints, employment and housing issues, among other assistance.
