A DANCE teacher hopes to tap to the top on TV talent show Got to Dance.

Freddie Huddleston, a teacher and former student at Tiffany Theatre College in Leigh, will be seen performing in front of judges on the Sky 1 show on Saturday.

He had to impress judges including former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, actor and tap dancer Adam Garcia, and Wickford dancer and choreographer Ashley Banjo in the prerecorded show.

The 24-year-old, from Westcliff, dances American tap to George Benson’s On Broadway in a bid for a live semi-final place.

Freddie said: “It was very exciting but different from what I’ve done before. It was out of my comfort zone, but that’s why I decided to do it. “It was great dancing in front of the judges – you don’t get any better than that.”

Freddie has performed in panto alongside Pineapple Dance Studios’ director Louie Spence, but was keen to learn from judges on the show.

Freddie said: “It was a great experience because they are all so good at what they do. They have a lot of ideas about different stuff and it’s useful to hear.

“Adam was the most useful because he is a tap dancer. I’ve followed everything he does. It was amazing to be in the same room as him and for him to be watching.”

Freddie grew up in Lincolnshire and started dancing aged 12.

He moved to Southend at 17 to join Tiffany Theatre College to study tap and musical theatre. He joined the teaching staff after finishing the three-year course and has choreographed for the school show.

The dancer, who refused to reveal if he made it through Saturday’s audition, said: “The main reason I came on was to showcase what I do and to encourage others to try tap. “I was one of the only tap dancers at my audition and that saddened me.’’
