TWO tiny new arrivals are settling into their new home.
Twin Eastern Pygmy Marmoset monkeys, which are the smallest breed in the world, have been born at Tropical Wings, in South Woodham Ferrers.
Proud parents Carita and Leoncito moved to the zoo earlier this year following successful breeding programmes elsewhere in the country.
John Ray, zoo manager, said: “We are very lucky to have had this pair arrive, settle and produce fine healthy babies in such a short period of time.”
Keeper Abbie Montgomery added: “I am very excited to be able to work with these tiny primates and the fact they have had twins is such a great bonus.
“They are proving so popular with our visitors and are not at all worried by all the attention they are getting!”
The Eastern Pygmy Marmoset, which originates from the South American Amazon, feed on tree sap, eggs, small birds and fruit.
The tiny creatures can easily fit in the palm of your hand, with a body length between 11cm and 15cm and an average weight of 100g.
