MUSICIANS, artists, actors and poets have been showcasing thealternative side to the local scene at the Estuary Fringe Festival.

Pubs, coffee shops and the beach in Southend have been transformed into art galleries and concert venues in a series of events this week.

The annual festival kicked off with a day of music at O’Neill’s pub in the High Street, followed by a day of drama and a gallery throughout the week.

A reggae “marathon” will take place at the Borough Hotel, Marine Parade, until Sunday.

Organiser Mark Sharp said: “It’s going brilliantly to be honest. We have been blown away away with the audience reaction.

“It has been a lot of hard work, but well worth it.

“Every day has been a highlight. The music event was fabulous with amazing bands.”
