AN INVESTIGATION into how a pothole was left to injure two cyclists in a month is ongoing.

The county council is investigating the standard of the roadworks carried out by National Grid in Southend Road, Rochford, just north of the Anne Boleyn pub.

Cyclist Dan Makin, 40, of Ashingdon, reported the pothole after breaking his shoulder and collarbone after hitting it in June.

It was earmarked for inspection, but no repair took place before it threw 18-yearold Faye Menzies, of Rochford, into the path of car, causing serious injuries to her neck, back, chest and pelvis, a week later.
