Canvey residents could have their council tax refunded if they have been flooded out.

They could be given three months refund if they can prove their homes were damaged in the recent floods.

The rebate will also include the parts of the council tax which is paid to Essex County Council and the Essex Fire Authority.

The proposal will goes before Castle Point Castle cabinet meeting next Wednesday.

The move comes after The Echo told how some flooded out families were being forced to pay double council tax on both their temporary and damaged home.

Last week Castle Point Council had agreed to give the families one month relief.
