TEENAGERS and their parents face anxious hours ahead of A-levels results day.

Schools across south Essex will be filled with A-level students as they collect their results tomorrow.

The qualifications could determine which university they attend this autumn, their place on training courses or their job prospects.

Anne Jones, Southend councillor responsible for children and learning, has experienced the tension as her 20-year-old son Sean picked up his results a couple of years ago. He is now preparing to start at Christ Church University, in Canterbury, after completing a successful apprenticeship with the Home Office.

Mrs Jones, whose 18-year-old son Liam has completed an Alevel- equivalent qualification in ICT but got his results earlier this year, said: “You pick up on the vibe of your young person.

“You can feel the tension on their behalf.

“You have supported them to get up and get to school throughout their A-levels.

“They have done a lot of changing and growing up. I’m sure parents will be there to support their children, as they have worked hard for seven years.”

Most schools will release results in the morning. For timings, contact the individual school.
