GENEROUS supporters raised a staggering £20,000 in just two days to help a 21-year-old who is battling two brain tumours.

Two events were held for Reece Hawley, of Clayhill Road, Basildon, who has been told he must find £4,000 every two weeks to pay for life prolonging drugs called Avastin.

Reece, who has been through three rounds of chemotherapy since his diagnosis in May last year, has been overwhelmed by the community’s response, with more than £25,000 already being raised.

The Bull in Pitsea held a charity concert with local band the Peppermint Apes, who have also released a charity single, Miracle to Me, on iTunes and Amazon to try and help Reece. Speaking about the evening, which raised more than £4,000, band member Colin Smith said: “It was an absolutely fantastic event – noone wanted it to end.”

A fun day was also held at the Quays pub at Festival Leisure Park with Scott from 5ive and Harry Derbidge from the Only Way is Essex.

So far the day has raised £13,200, but there is still money coming in.

Sherron Parsons, family friend and organiser, said: “There were literally hundreds of people.

“Reece stayed for ages, it was the most emotional thing I have experienced seeing him walked through while people just cheered, all the women were crying.”

Nova Dolan won an Audi TT that Sherron’s husband Tony had donated and Lisa Chegwiddon raised about £1,000 by having her head shaved.
