The Health and Safety Executive have been called in to investigate after a man is understood to have had acid spilt on his face.
The man in his 60s was taken to Basildon Hospital with potentially life changing injuries.
A rapid response car, an ambulance and the Hazard Area Response Team were called to Wiseman Industries in Radford Crescent in Billericay at 1.05pm on Tuesday.
A fire crew were also called to the scene.
The company refused to comment.
A spokesman for the HSE confirmed they had been made aware of the incident were investigating.
